John Connolly’s “Charlie Parker” series won. This is the second book I have read and the combination of a mature private eye combined with a slightly mystical bent makes for a fast-paced page-turner that keeps you hooked to the end. Private detective Charlie Parker is a detective with a jazz soul. His dry style and cool way of calmly handling events is what makes his character so lovable. The supporting characters are equally well developed. I’ve never read any of Connolly’s novels before, but now I’m definitely hooked and looking forward to another installment.
