Three Act Tragedy by Agatha Christie

Three Act Tragedy” is a novel by Agatha Christie featuring her famous detective Hercule Poirot.

The story begins with a dinner party hosted by Sir Charles Cartwright, where Reverend Stephen Babbington suddenly dies after drinking a cocktail. Initially thought to be a natural death, it is later revealed to be murder when another guest, Dr. Bartholomew Strange, dies in a similar manner at another party. Hercule Poirot is called in to investigate the deaths.

As Poirot delves into the case, he uncovers a complex web of relationships and motives among the guests at both parties. The suspects include actors, doctors, and other socialites, each with their own secrets and reasons for wanting the victims dead.

Through his meticulous investigation and astute observations, Poirot eventually unravels the mystery and reveals the identity of the murderer in a dramatic denouement that takes place during a third party hosted by Sir Charles Cartwright.

Sir Charles Cartwright should have known better than to allow 13 guests to sit down for dinner. Because by the end of the evening, one of them was dead – suffocated by a cocktail that contained no poison.

Predictably, said Hercule Poirot, the great detective. But it was completely unpredictable that he was completely unable to find a motive for the murder…

One of my favorites! Let me clarify something. There are two versions of this novel. Some readers have blamed Kindle for changing the story from their memory. Kindle does not. There are TWO print versions. They differ on the motive for two of the three murders. My copy of Tragedy in Three Acts has one motive, my copy of Murder in Three Acts has another. In total there are about 30 different passages, almost all of which appear in the final chapter. Credit or responsibility for these changes must belong to Christie’s or the publishers, not to Kindle.
