Blood Relatives An 87th Precinct Novel -Audiobook Online
Blood Relatives is a horror and suspense novel by author Ed McBain. A killer has run out of blood and detective Steve Carella has to bring him in. But a shocking surprise awaits as a survivor brings a suspect into the squad.
Evan Hunter, better known today as Ed McBain for his 87th Precinct series, wrote Blood Relatives in 1975, nearly twenty years after the first book in the series, Cop Hater. From the opening scene where a bloody girl runs through the dark rainy streets of Isola for help, this scene grabs you and doesn’t let go. The story Patricia Lowrey tells the police leads them to her cousin Muriel, killed by the man who tried to kill both of them. A squad is arranged by Kling and Carella, who discover they are working on the same case. But when Patricia pointed to someone in the line, Carella couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong here. Even when the boys of 87 finally appeared to realize the truth, Carella couldn’t shake that feeling.
This movie delves deeper into the gritty of large families than the dingy streets of Isola, but still brings a sense of authenticity to the series for which the series is famous. When a new piece of evidence lands in Carella’s lap by sheer chance, a sad and twisted story eventually leads him to the killer. The passages told in a young girl’s voice in this episode are some of the best writing McBain has ever done in this series. It humanizes the victim, and adds bitterness to this stellar police procedure.
