Permission To Feel – Audiobook Online
Permission To Feel – Unlocking the Power of Emotions to Help Our Kids, Ourselves, and Our Society Thrive, Audiobook Online By: Marc Brackett
“We are in crisis and its victims are our children.”
Marc Brackett is a professor at the Yale Center for Child Studies and founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.
During his 25 years as an “emotional scientist”, he has developed a remarkably effective plan to improve the lives of children and adults – a blueprint for understanding our emotions and using them. Use them wisely so that they help, rather than hinder, our success and happiness present. At the core of his approach is the legacy from his childhood, from an astute uncle who allowed him to feel.
He was the first adult who was able to meet Marc, listen to him, and recognize the suffering, bullying and abuse he has endured. And that was the beginning of Marc’s realization that what he was going through was temporary. He’s not alone, he’s not stuck in a timeline, and he’s not “wrong” to feel scared, isolated, and angry. Now, it’s best if he can do something about it.
In the decades since, Marc has led large research teams and raised tens of millions of dollars to investigate the origins of emotional happiness. His prescription for healthy kids (and their parents, teachers and schools) is a system called RULER, a fast-acting and highly effective approach to understanding and doing.
Emotional mastery has changed thousands of schools that have adopted it, RULER has been shown to reduce stress, depression, burnout and boost to encourage higher academic achievement. This book is the culmination of Marc’s development of RULER and how he shares his strategies and skills with listeners around the world. It is tested, and it works.
This audiobook closely combines, science, passion, and inspiration in equal parts. Too many children and adults are suffering; they are ashamed of their feelings and emotionally unskilled, but they don’t have to be. Marc Brackett’s life mission is to reverse this process, and this audiobook can show you how.
This work has given me the words to understand my emotional self both past and present.
I am using this as a Book Club pick at work and along with the book club members hope for an emotional revolution.
As others have noted, the narration is not always delivered as fluently as some other audible titles. The narrative doesn’t stop me from appreciating the ideas in the book. It has the benefit of being the author’s own voice, and has an integrity in it that makes perfect sense with both the personal and actual content of the book.
