  • The True Story of a Horse, a Man, and an Unstoppable Dream

Adapted from the number-one New York Times best-selling adult novel, this inspiring true story of a man and horse duo who rose to the top of the competitive equestrian world is one of unstoppable hope, inconceivable dreams, and the chance to have it all, perfect for animal lovers and history buffs alike.

On a dreary winter afternoon, Harry de Leyer first saw the horse he would name Snowman among the bars of a rickety lorry preparing to arrive at the slaughterhouse. Noticing a spark in the horse’s eye, the Dutch immigrant bought the battered animal for just eighty dollars and took it to the family’s humble Long Island ranch.

Although Snowman is thriving in his new home, Harry needs money. Reluctantly, he sold Snowman to another ranch a few miles away. But the fluffy horse had other ideas.

When he returned to Harry’s barn, dragging an old tire and a broken fence board, Harry knew he had misjudged the horse. Then, Snowman began his phenomenal star journey when Harry trained him to dance, taking Snowman all the way to the pinnacle of the sport.

This dramatic and inspiring rise of an unlikely duo is based on the insight and recollection of the Flying Dutchman himself. The story of Snowman and Harry captured the heart of Cold War America – a tale of unstoppable hope, unthinkable dreams, and the chance to have it all. Elizabeth Letts’ message is simple: Never give up, even when the obstacles seem sky-high. There is something extraordinary in all of us.

I read the adult version of this and loved it. Jumped on the young reader version to send to my horse-mad niece, and she really liked it.
