She has no name or voice of her own, and her body and soul belong to those who own her rights. When her former captain abandons her, she is left alone on the ship with no friends or power, and a new captain named Saito Ren takes command. The Sisterhood orders her to spy on Captain Ren, but she finds herself falling in love with him instead. As she struggles to balance her loyalty to the Sisterhood, her duty to the war effort, and her feelings for Captain Ren, the First Sister learns what it means to have agency and make her own choices.

First Sister has no name and no voice. As a priestess of the Sisters, she travels the stars with the soldiers of Earth and Mars – the very ones who possess the right to her body and soul. When her former captain abandoned her, Big Sister’s hopes of freedom were dashed when she was forced to stay on her ship with no friends, no power and a new captain – Saito Ren – whom she knows nothing about. She is assigned by the Sisters to spy on Captain Ren, but quickly discovers that working for the war effort is much more difficult when you’re in love.
Lito val Lucius climbs out of the slums to become an elite soldier of Venus but is defeated in battle by none other than Saito Ren, leading to the disappearance of his partner, Hiro. When Lito learns that Hiro is alive and a traitor to justice, he now has a chance to redeem himself: to track down and kill his former comrades. But when it is discovered that the recordings that Hiro has secretly made, Lito’s own loyalty is put to the test. In the end, he must decide between following orders and following his heart.
With “a layered, action-packed storyline and diverse characters” (Library Journal), The First Sister explores the power of technology, colonization, race and gender and is perfect for fanatics James S.A. Corey, Chuck Wendig and Jay Posey.
This was such a fantastic story and I hope for more from this universe. I don’t usually review books so I am not sure what to say. But, please, consider giving this author and their fantastic story a chance.
