Isle of the Lost/ The A Descendants Novel/Book 1 – Audiobook Online

The Isle of the Lost: A Descendants Novel is the first book in the Descendants series written by Melissa de la Cruz. It is a fantasy novel that takes place in the same universe as Disney’s Descendants franchise. The story revolves around the lives of four teenage children of Disney villains who are banished to the Isle of the Lost, a remote and isolated island where all the villains and their sidekicks have been imprisoned.

The book begins with an introduction to the main characters: Mal, daughter of Maleficent; Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen; Jay, son of Jafar; and Carlos, son of Cruella de Vil. These four teenagers have grown up on the Isle of the Lost, cut off from the rest of the world and living in a place filled with darkness and despair.

Life on the Isle is harsh, with limited resources and constant surveillance by magical barriers. The inhabitants are forced to scavenge for food and other necessities, living in dilapidated buildings and struggling to survive. The children are also burdened by their parents’ legacies and expectations, constantly reminded of their villainous heritage.

However, everything changes when Prince Ben, son of King Beast and Queen Belle, announces his plan to give the children of villains a chance at redemption. He decides to invite Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos to attend Auradon Prep, a prestigious school for the children of Disney heroes. This opportunity offers them a chance to escape their bleak existence on the Isle and prove themselves as more than just their parents’ offspring.

Reluctantly, the four teenagers accept the invitation and embark on a journey to Auradon. They face numerous challenges along the way, including adapting to a completely different lifestyle and dealing with prejudice from their new classmates. As they navigate through friendships, rivalries, and romantic entanglements, they also discover secrets about their parents and the true nature of their own identities.

Throughout the book, the characters undergo personal growth and transformation. Mal learns to embrace her own power and not be defined solely by her mother’s reputation. Evie discovers that beauty is not everything and that she is capable of much more than just being the Evil Queen’s daughter. Jay realizes that he can break free from his father’s shadow and make his own choices. Carlos overcomes his fear of dogs and finds his voice in a world that has always silenced him.

As the story progresses, a plot unfolds involving an evil plan to use magic to take over Auradon. The four main characters, along with their new friends, must work together to stop this threat and save their new home. In doing so, they prove that they are not defined by their parents’ actions and that they have the power to choose their own paths.

Twenty years ago, all the wicked villains were banished from the kingdom of Auradon to the Isle of the Lost―a dark and dreary place protected by a force field that prevented them from leaving. Stripped of their magical powers, the villains now live in complete isolation, forgotten by the world.

Mal learns from her mother, Maleficent, that the key to true darkness, the Dragon’s Eye, lies within her staff in the forbidden fortress on the far side of the island. The eye is cursed, whoever gets it will fall asleep for a thousand years. But Mal has a plan to capture it. She will just need a little help from her “friends”. In their quest to find the Dragon’s Eye, these four children begin to realize that just because you come from an evil family background, being good doesn’t have to be so bad.

As a child, it was hard not to breath a sigh of relief when the evil Disney villain was defeated. The Evil Queen, Jafar, Maleficent and many MANY more were completely awful to the characters the movies were focused on making us love and want to emulate. But, what if, after the happily ever after, the villains survived and were exiled to an island of their own? This is the basis for Melissa De La Cruz’ The Isle of the Lost : A Descendants novel.
