In typical Caulfield style, just interviewing experts and reading current research (which he does) is not enough. He tries celebrity-recommended diet and beauty routines. After entering a modeling contest, he applied to audition/review for a Hollywood modeling agency. In an effort to understand the relationship between celebrity and culture and our personal health choices, he monitors celebrity Twitter feeds, scans gossip blogs, and forces I had to read every issue – page after page – of People magazine over the course of a year. In this fun, factual book, Caulfield separates meaning from nonsense and offers helpful and evidence-based advice on what really works and what wastes money and time. .

I found this audiobook informative and easy to listen to. Caulfield explains how celebrities and celebrity brands can distort science and offer an insight into the realities of beauty, diet, and fame. Totally recommend.

This has long been a favorite of mine. Just because someone is famous doesn’t mean they’re an expert in every field. That’s not to say their opinion should be weighed against researched facts or your doctor. Caulfield did a great job of exploring how celebrities have influenced our culture and how that obsession can harm people’s lives. It’s a short book, but it’s probably best to read the chapters one at a time.
