The villagers closed their ranks and were in no hurry to cooperate with the police. Enjoying the services of Signorina Ellatra, Brunetti begins a painful and uncomfortable investigation.

Commissario Brunnetti’s investigation leads to emotional complications from work and family, jealousy, rivalry, and tax evasion problems. Protecting the people he works with brings solutions and the story comes to a tragic end.
