A Song for the Dark Times, Inspector Rebus #23 – Audiobook by Author Ian Rankin.
When his daughter Samantha called late at night, John Rebus knew it wasn’t good news. Her husband has been missing for two days.
Rebus feared the worst – and from the time he lived in the police, his daughter would be the prime suspect.
He’s not the best dad – work always comes first – but his daughter needs him now more than ever. But will he become a father or a detective?
As he leaves at dawn for a drive to the windswept coast – and a small town with big secrets – he wonders if this is the first time in his life that the truth is something he doesn’t want to find. see…
When the twenty-third book in the series opens, Rebus is moving house. Strictly speaking, he is still in the same building but moved from the apartment upstairs to the ground floor. He has COPD, a chronic disease that interferes with the flow of air to his lungs.
That means no cigars and no alcohol. Oh man, this is not going to be what ordinary John Rebus readers (like me) have come to know and love.
He is now retired from his role as senior Edinburgh detective but he remains close to DI Siobhan Clarke – who is actually helping him with the logistics of the move.
However, Rebus is distracted by an urgent call from her daughter, her teammate Keith has gone missing and she is filled with anxiety. There is nothing to do but leave everything in Siobhan’s talented hands and slide up the northernmost coast of Scotland where she lives. He may be retired but this is a “case” he could be in.
