After Dark By Haruki Murakami – Online Audiobook.

This is a good, short novel about encounters, set in Tokyo between midnight and dawn, and everything is as gripping as Haruki Murakami’s masterpieces The Wind- Up Bird Chronicle and Kafka on the Shore.
At its center are two sisters: Eri, a fashion model fading into oblivion, and Mari, a young student who soon takes the lead from solitary reading at an unknown Denny’s store to direction. to people whose lives are completely different from hers: a jazz trombonist who claims to have met before, a burly female “love hotel” manager and her maid, and a Chinese prostitute being brutally brutalized by a businessman.

After Dark moves from mesmerizing drama to metaphysical speculation, weaving together time and space, as well as memory and perspective, into a seamless exploration of human agency. Murakami’s signature humour, psychological insight, and spiritual and moral insight are all distilled here with an extraordinary, harmonious whole.

Haruki Murakami definitely has a unique voice and way of speaking with words that force you to think about what you’re reading. He is also extremely adept at drawing an image to life and forcing the reader to live in and observe it.

That being said, this is a book genre that can’t be interrupted or half-listened. I’m only giving it four stars for now because I need to go back again and read this book more carefully. I think I missed the arc metaphor that highlights what/really/about the book because there was a time when I couldn’t invest in it as I would have liked. Then I will most likely adjust my rating.

The narration is fluent and effective. I found Janet Song’s voice to be compatible with Haruki Murakami’s writing style.
