01- This book is the rapid technological advancement that David Weber guided us through. The army and navy are advancing in the face of an opponent that is trying to innovate, and war remains a mortal danger, even for the victors.
Character development continues to include further insight into The Grand Inquisitor’s directing corruption and Team 4’s motives. It makes me want to know what happens next for the people of Safehold.
02- The Safehold series was loved and received by readers. Weber goes into great detail about the battle and the overall campaign. This book is a map-narrative, and is a struggle. There are hundreds of Safehold maps on the internet, but it is difficult to find the necessary map. If Weber is going to spend the effort to deliver blow-by-meter/hit-hit in battles, a full map is required to keep an eye on it.
03- Some minor details contribute little to the main story. Descriptions of battles and strategies would be a lot more interesting if the text was interspersed with maps showing armies, movements, battles. Clashes and strategies have a certain ambiguity and repetition to them.
