Book of the Little Axe – Audiobook Online
Book of the Little Ax is a literary fiction book by author Lauren Francis-Sharma.
In Trinidad in 1796, the quiet but purposeful teenage Rosa Rendon rebelled against the typical female roles and behavior. Rosa doesn’t see any reason why she should learn to cook and keep a house – apparently her talent lies in running the farm she expects to be her birthright, despite having two siblings. But as her homeland transitioned from Spanish to British rule, it became increasingly unclear whether its liberal black property owners – the Rosa family among them – were allowed to keep the property, their land and ultimately their freedom or not.
By 1830, Rosa was living among the Crow Nation in Bighorn, Wyoming, with her husband, Edward Rose, and family. Her son Victor has reached the age where he should seek his vision and become a man.
But his path is blocked by the secrets that Rosa has hidden from him. So Rosa sets out to take him on a journey to where his story begins and, in turn, retraces to her own roots, of a girl who has trained herself to walk from the middle of the ocean. ocean to the grassy hills in a distant land.
