Eventide is a great book by author Sarah Goodman.
When her father goes insane, Verity Pruitt and her sister Lilah find themselves uprooted from New York, on an orphan train to rural Arkansas.

In Wheeler, Lilah is quickly adopted by the town’s beloved teacher – but not Verity. She considers herself a farmer, and even the charming farm boy Abel Atchley can’t completely distract her from her feeling that something is amiss in this small town. The forest plays tricks, creating dense fog and bone-chilling cold… and sometimes images that aren’t there.

For Verity, perhaps the most unsettling is the revelation that her parents have a scandalous history in this very town. She tries to unearth the past, the sinister secrets that come with it – secrets that someone will have to resort to violence to protect.
