Review 1: The Art of Hearing Heartbeats audiobook by Aura

How come that the saintly, over-successful, highly intelligent, wealthy lawyer made no attempt to contact the love of his life over a period of 50 years? How come that he lacks the will power to defy the evil uncle? You expect him to move heaven and earth for her. How come that this most sensitive person is not interested in the fate of the people he left behind in Burma, people who cared for him and loved him? Why did he married? Sorry, too silly and implausible.
I didn’t completely dislike it but I wouldn’t recommend it either.

Review 2: The Art of Hearing Heartbeats audiobook by Cathryn Conroy

Magic. Pure magic. This book—with prose that reads more like poetry—is a sheer delight. I have no idea how to classify it. It’s a haunting fable. And a passionate love story. And an enchanting mystery. I wanted to hurriedly read to find out what would happen next, but I had to keep stopping to reread whole paragraphs because they were so beautifully written. Elegant writing cannot be cheated no matter how engrossing the plot.

When Julia Win’s successful and wealthy father mysteriously disappears from their New York apartment soon after her law school graduation, she decides to track him down half a world away. Her only clue is a letter he has written to a mysterious lover in Burma. Is he leading a double life? Julia will find out, and in the process, she finds out more than she could ever imagine about herself and the transcendent power of love.

This short book by Jan-Philipp Sendker is a profound story about the true meaning of love, a wake-up for us all in this rather jaded world in which we live. Escape in it and simply enjoy!

Review 3: The Art of Hearing Heartbeats audiobook by J. Tallant

What a beautiful lesson in life and love and death! I have been greatly moved by this book in a way that I seldom am. Eloquently written, the imagery of sight and sound are profound. Not only is it a lesson in the advantages a disability can bring, it also brings healing to the grieving heart. How many books can you say that about? The lessons learned by a young woman in the search for her missing father are ones that bring beauty and fullness to life. I am most grateful I have read it.
