Mosaic A Chronicle of Five Generations – Audiobook Online

Mosaic is a beautiful book by author Diane Armstrong.
This remarkable true story begins in the Polish city of Krakow in 1890 and spans 100 years across four continents. God has blessed Lieba and devout Jewish patriarch Daniel Baldinger with 11 children. The lives personify the struggles and hopes of our century, through the decades, through the horrifying years of the Holocaust to the present.
The story is gripping at its best – from the fascinating details of Polish-Jewish culture, the rivalry and drama of family life, to the touching story of lives torn apart by war. violence and abuse, this is an extraordinary story of a family and of one person. A woman’s journey to reclaim her legacy.

As a self-proclaimed student of the Holocaust, I have read many memoirs of survivors. However, none moved me the way “Mosaic: A Chronicle of Five Generations” did. Diane Armstrong’s 100-year record of her family history is breathtaking in depth and heart-fluttering in breadth. She talks about her students, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends whose lives are closely tied to hers, and her parents, all of whom lost to the Final Solution. There are no heroes or heroines, just an ordinary family living in the darkest of times.

This fact is probably what I liked most about the book. They are ordinary people trying to survive in an extraordinary age by any means necessary. I won’t give a summary because other reviewers have already done so. I would just urge anyone with a social conscience, an interest in history, who repeat that “those who forget the past will be condemned to it” to read “Mosaic: A Chronic Five Generations” .
