General Ridgewalker Zirkander is getting married.

Sardelle – the woman who had fought dragons, wizards and countless enemies by his side – had accepted his marriage proposal and this was the perfect time for the wedding. It’s been two months since any dragons or witches attacked the city, Cofah still hasn’t gone after their kidnapped emperor, and King Angulus has stopped scolding Ridge for accidentally destroying the castle.

It really doesn’t add anything interesting to the series. Perhaps the author was asked by fans to come up with a cliché “wedding” finale. In my opinion, that only further diminishes the capable female characters she has developed in the series. Even the “guy” dragon wasn’t as happy.

When I read about how Sardelle looked forward to hearing the priest call Ridge and her husband and wife, I shuddered. What’s wrong with “husband and wife”? When it comes to how happy she is to be Mrs. Zirkander, I can shut up like Jaxi.
I appreciate independent and successful female characters. I just don’t understand why those characters, like so many successful and independent women in real life, aren’t considered “complete” unless they can have a man hanging around. I understood that they were the ones with the missing ribs!
There has been progress in the perception of what women can achieve, but unfortunately we seem to come with some manufacturer settings that really require an upgrade.

Marry. Dragon. And conspiracy to steal. Compared to the rest of the Dragon Blood series, this one is a bit more tame, which I really enjoyed. I’m glad they were able to have a semi-relaxed time after all the chaos of the previous books. Some timelines are surprising to me. I feel like after 7 books, it’s lasted for years, but according to a narrative here, it’s only been a year and a half since the first book. I think that’s a lot of garbage that will happen in two years. Anyway, I really enjoyed the book, the dragons and as always, the excellent characters that Lindsay Buroker developed.
