Ogre Enchanted is a beautiful book by author Gail Carson Levine.
This story by beloved author Gail Carson Levine stars an intelligent heroine who is determined to defy expectations – and to defy a fairy’s curse.
Evie takes pleasure in curing people, diagnosing symptoms and prescribing medications with the help of her devoted friend (and test subject) Wormy. So when Wormy unexpectedly proposed to her, she kindly turned him down; She has too much work to do to marry anyone. And besides, she simply doesn’t love him.

But some meddling fairy named Lucinda eavesdropped and she disapproved of Evie’s refusal. Suddenly, Evie finds herself transformed from a girl into a hideous, hungry elf!

Trapped in this new and confusing form, Evie now has only 62 days to accept another marriage proposal – or else be trapped as an elf forever.

Overall, I enjoyed the plot. The characters are innovative and the plot progresses rapidly. Sometimes Evie lets me down with her attitude or actions. It wasn’t until a third of the book that I remembered a connection to Ella Enchanted (the next book in the series, written 11 years before this one).
Honestly, I don’t care about connectivity. Instead, I’d rather enjoy this book as a stand-alone novel. If I succeed, my intense hatred of Sir Peter will lessen as I reread Ella Enchanted.

I listened to the audiobook and have to say the performance was brilliant! I plan to check out the other books narrated by January LaVoy.
