Mary, Mary is the 11th novel of the Alex Cross series written by James Patterson. This is a crime mystery series. It features the protagonist who is a current FBI agent and former homicide detective going up against Mary Smith. You can also read 11th Hour if you want to follow more of the author’s work. The three narrators of this audiobook are Peter Jay Fernandez, Michael Louis, and Melissa Leo. Having three narrators doesn’t achieve much, since one above-average narrator is plenty in most cases.

FBI Agent Cross is on a vacation with his family as he receives word about a murder in Hollywood. An actress has been killed by slashing her face with a knife. An entertainment reporter also received emails signed by “Mary Smith” describing the murder and the motivations of the killer. The actress had friends in high places, and the case finally falls in Cross’s hand.

Alex realizes that this murder is not an isolated event. Mary Smith has indeed done this before. Not only that, she doesn’t plan on stopping soon. Alex is befuddled by the case because it is unlike anything he has solved before. Is it some crazy fan or a failed actor who is doing this? Or is it someone else entirely? There’s also the question that how is a woman acting alone could commit these murders? The case has the Hollywood elites trembling in their homes, thinking they’ll be the next victims. As the case grows, LAPD and the FBI start scrambling around before Mary can commit another murder.

This book serves as a turning point in the life of our hero. It focuses a lot on his personal life. It is as much about Alex as it about the murders.
