As Joe digs deeper into the murders, he soon discovers that the adulterer has brought him more than death: he brought Joe an endangered species, presumed extinct, now living in his woodpile. But if information about the existence of endangered species wreaks havoc outside, it will destroy any chance for InterWest, a multinational natural gas company, to build an oil pipeline that will brought the company billions of dollars across Wyoming, through the heights and woods of the Twelve Sleeps. The closer Joe gets to the truth behind the murders of outlaws, endangered species, and InterWest, the closer he gets to losing everything he holds dear.

This is the first book in CJ Box’s Joe Pickett series and to start the story off is a bit awkward; However, the more I read, the more I had to read. Joe Pickett is a nice guy! He tries to live his life by doing the “right thing” in every aspect of his life. He is a vulnerable human being and the author shares this with you. There are stories that make you laugh at the “humanity” of the situations. Open Season is a fun, easy read; I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading stories where good triumphs over evil.
