Perfectly Wounded – Audiobook Online
Perfectly Wounded – Audiobook Online By: Mike Day, Admiral William H. McRaven – foreword, Robert Vera
The amazing true story of former Navy SEAL Mike Day who survived being shot 27 times while deployed in Iraq.
On the night of April 6, 2007, in the Iraqi province of Anbar, Police Chief Mike Day, his Navy SEAL team, and a group of Iraqi scouts were hunting for a high-ranking al-Qaeda cell. Day was the first to enter the 12×12 room, where four terrorist leaders were waiting for an ambush. When the gunfight ended, he took out all 4 terrorists in the room, but before he was shot 27 times and hit by shrapnel.
Miraculously, Day cleared the rest of the house and rescued six women and children before stepping out on his own to a waiting helicopter to take him to safety.
While in the hospital, the Navy SEALs lost 55 pounds in two weeks. It took nearly two years for Day to physically recover from the injury, although he still faces pain. Like so many veterans, doctors diagnosed Day with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury – the invisible wounds of war.
While I don’t feel that Mike Day is the best narrator for his own audiobook… I feel like the emotion he allows for expression will make up for any of his shortcomings. His laughter to himself throughout the book is contagious. I found a big smile on my face in his laughter. And I feel sad when he shares his sadness.
What a wonderful story he has to tell… and overall he tells it well. I would love to read more stories narrated by Mike Day.
This book tells a great story about a great man, but it is also very informative and serious about mental health issues. I don’t know how anyone other than the author himself could read this book. I want to thank whoever decided to leave in the part where he was disappointed. The story is a lot more realistic to it and you get the feeling that you’re talking to him rather than listening to an audiobook.
