Quitters, Inc. is a mystery novel by author Stephen King.
Dick Morrison’s life had become a nightmare of addictions, filling his days with overeating, overwork, and smoking too much. An old friend told him about a surefire way to quit, which he was more than willing to give it a try. But what Dick doesn’t know is that Quitters, Inc. demanding a high price from anyone who strays from their rigid rules – like a few volts for the nearest and dearest… or maybe a lost thumb? Forced to choose between his desperate need to smoke and the dire consequences of his addiction, Dick must decide how important another attraction really is.

This is one of my favorite King short stories but I was disappointed in the performance. At some point during the recording, there was a heavy sax-driven muzak playing in the background – it made the performance cheesy and confusing for the reader. As for Roberts – he reads material very quickly and he often sounds as if he holds the microphone too close to his mouth and is often difficult to understand. I tried setting the ipod to play back slower but it just made him sound drunk. I set the eq on the ipod to voice and that seemed to help a bit – although by that point I might have gotten used to it. The fact that this is so short is probably the only reason why I tried to read until the end.

This is a tape recording of one of Stephen King’s great short stories. I first saw it on the TV series “The Twilight Zone”. Talk about being careful about what you want. Well, this is the story for you. The film is about a person with an addiction who is promised a surefire way to get rid of it. I don’t want to reveal the plot. But if you haven’t read the story or watched it, you should get the audio version. It makes a short trip to or from work enjoyable. Time will pass. You will just love it.
