The last remnants of an ancient advanced race, the Guild of Seven Stars, are finally returning to their lost home world, Midkemia — not as friends, but as way to be conquerors. The magician Pug, Midkemia’s courageous and constant protector, was so familiar with the Demon King Maarg and his minions and their evil capacity for barbarism and terror, and he recognized it. An even more serious threat is following the goblin invasion. The coming attack will overshadow any terrible catastrophe his perilous world has suffered before, and no magic champion in the entire Midkemia is strong enough to stop it.

A unique path for Pug and Midkemia’s secret guardians, the Dark Conference: forge an alliance of formidable magical talents, from the demon slayer mage Amirantha, brother of the arch-enemies. joint of Pug, and demon tamer cleric Sandreena, to the Goblin Queen. Miranda, to warrior Tomas. However, uniting enemies and bitter, vengeful ex-lovers will not be an easy task, and even together, they may not be able to turn the tide in the end. But failing to do so would certainly ensure Midkemia’s doom.

This book is certainly not lacking in errors. Many characters are not attractive. The author also seems to have a habit of adding unnecessary fights to the background of dialogue, especially when the characters are introducing themselves to each other or to the reader. There are some random clichés, though the text is generally pretty robust. There is also a slight mismatch between the dark, epic setting of the book and the positive attitudes and friendly interactions between the characters.

However, the plot moves at a good pace and the setting is interesting. There are some real surprises lurking in the plot. The author also introduces a very detailed and fairly consistent diagram of the workings of magic, demons, etc., which are lacking in other sword and magic universes.

Raymond Feist is always good.
With one of my favorite characters dying and another that I think will last much longer, it surprised me but it all worked out and had an impact and realism on me. this fantastic fantasy series.
