Rift in the Sky is the third science fiction book in Stratification’s Stratification series.

Despite all good intentions, the temptation of Talent to travel through space using the M’hir dimension was too much for the Om’ray of Cersi to resist. As awareness of this talent spread, all capable Om’ray people converged on the settlement at Sona. To prevent the breach of the Agreement and the destruction it would cause, the M’hiray, as they now call themselves, agreed to leave Cersi for good and attempt to establish their own refuge in the world. Trade Treaty world – only to learn that not everyone wants peace.

I will have to say I was disappointed in this one. After reading Riders of the Storm, I was looking forward to this. I can only say that it fell a lot short of my expectations. The story lacks the purpose and surprise of the Riders, and the ending was a huge disappointment for me. I think the problem is that the Author is trying to combine/disaggregate this series with the pre-existing Trade Agreement series. I’m still a Czerneda fan, but I feel a bit cheated after this one.

This series provides a good setting for Czerneda’s first series. Now I’m rereading the following “A Thousand Words to Strangers” which is very good.
