Sky Dragons/ Dragonriders of Pern – Free Online
Sky Dragons is a good book by the author Anne McCaffrey, Todd McCaffrey.
From the New York Times bestselling mother and son team by Anne McCaffrey and Todd McCaffrey, comes the final installment in the gripping Pern saga that begins with Todd’s personal novel, Dragonsblood. Now, with all of Pern in jeopardy as a result of a plague that has slain countless dragons and rendered the planet helpless against the demise of the Deadly Thread, the only hope for the future lies in past.
There, on an uncharted island, a group of dragon riders led by Xhinna, a brave young woman riding the green dragon Tazith, must battle the deadly Merow and voracious snakes to build. a safe home for themselves and their dragons, their children will be one. days—if they survived—to replenish Pern’s dwindling dragon population. But as the first female green dragon rider and the first female Weyr leader in Pern’s history, Xhinna faces an uphill battle for the respect and loyalty of her fellow humans. .. especially after an unforeseen tragedy leaves the struggling colony reeling from a crushing loss.
In the midst of grief, a girl, Jirana, blessed – or cursed – with the ability to foresee potential futures, will help Xhinna find the way forward. The answer lies in time… or rather in time: the dragons’ amazing ability to travel through time. But that power comes with risks, and by venturing deeper into the past, Xhinna may be endangering the very future she has vowed to save.
Whenever someone takes over writing someone else’s work, you can assume it won’t be as good as the original. It’s bound to happen because it’s not their world. I like Todd’s writing for itself. He has his own style, and many of the complaints about “forgetting” Anne’s booking times that other readers have complained have been addressed in her books with deteriorating records.
The main mistake in this book, and unfortunately he relied on that book, which I can’t forgive him for, was that the Dawn Sisters were in geosynchronous orbit above Landing . That means they don’t move from that spot. He let them actually orbit the planet after dawn. That one mistake makes this storyline more confusing, though given Pern’s curve, the Dawn Sisters’ initial use could work. The map in front of the Dolphins of Pern shows that’s possible. That’s all I came up with.
Really like these additions to Todd McCaffery’s series, they have kept the essence of Pern’s books while exploring different timelines in Pern’s history, with complex and well-developed characters
