I really enjoyed reading this book, as it was a great way to get a more in-depth overview of Kendi’s Stamped From the Beginning book. It is easy to read and clearly written for younger readers in language and expression. There are so many things in this book that I’m ashamed of not knowing or understanding, and I feel like my eyes have been opened wider to this challenging, outraged, and still hopeful history. about race and racism in America.

All in all, this is an incredible book explaining a history that everyone should read. It really shouldn’t be just a ‘teen’ book as I didn’t see it that way and enjoyed the style and pace of the book so much I read it all in one go. Also, I find it quite amusing to read through the negative reviews by people that kids have to read it because it’s a ‘required reading’ in school. Obviously they should be the ones asked to read this rather than judge!

If you want to learn the history of racism in America in a rewarding, insightful and interesting way, I recommend this book. Jason Reynolds brings history to life with humor and personality.
