Sticks & Scones (Goldy Schulz Book 10) – Free Full Audiobook

Sticks & Scones is a great book by author Diane Mott Davidson.
Diane Mott Davidson won a lot of fans and earned a spot on the national bestseller list. Now she’s concocting another dangerously delicious dish about murder and mystery.

For Colorado caterer Goldy Schulz, accepting a series of reservations at Hyde Castle was like a dream come true. It’s not every day that she cooks authentic Elizabethan food – especially at a castle that was actually brought from England and reassembled in stone at Aspen Meadow. Goldy was determined that everything would turn out the way she wanted – which is why, she later realized, things had gone terribly wrong. It started when a shotgun blast broke her window. Later, Goldy discovered a body lying in a nearby creek. And when gunfire rang out a second time that day, someone Goldy loved was in the air. The last thing Goldy wants to think about is Shakespeare’s Steak Pie, 911 Emergency Chocolate Cookies, or Damson-in-Distress Plum Tarts. Can one of the police investigations Tom, her husband cause a murder? Or is her violent ex, just released on parole responsible? With death lurking around every corner, Goldy needs to find some crime-solving solutions before the only dish left on her menu is murder.

This was the first Diane Mott Davidson book I read. No problem. Too many characters in the story or the ending will be much faster. There are recipes, some of which look good. Someday I’ll give the author another chance by reading something that’s not in the series.

Goldy was served in a mansion that was actually brought to Colorado from England. This is going to be a really interesting thing for Goldy until she gets her window blown out at home, then finds a body in the creek next to the castle and then more shots are fired at her. Things are not going well for her and her family. Could it be that her ex-husband who just got out of prison is trying to get her back or something more sinister? She has to figure this out before someone in her family including herself is next.

Diana Mott Davison can’t write a bad book or recipe. That said, this one has many factors. The details and sub-plot are not really clear. They contribute to the story line but one feels they are superficial, just there to make things a little more complicated. Another criticism of all of these books is the lack of interest in Goldie and Tom’s relationship. This one adds a bit of life/realism to Goldie’s interior landscape. Hopefully this starts some character development as opposed to plot development because all the characters are engaging and engaging. Arch and Julian are the most developed. A good read anyway.
