Still Life (Karen Pirie Novels Book 6) – Free Full Audiobook

Still Life (Karen Pirie Novels Book 6) is a good book by author Val McDermid.
A Scottish police inspector solves forgery and false identities in a new murder mystery.

When a lobster fisherman discovers a dead body in Scotland’s Firth of Forth, DCI Karen Pirie is called in to investigate. She quickly discovers that the case will require untangling a complicated web — involving a long-lost case, fake artwork, and a secret identity — that appears to surround an artist. could imitate anyone from Holbein to Hockney. A traffic accident leads to the discovery of a skeleton in a suburban garage. Karen has had enough to eat, and things only become more intense when the man responsible for the death of the love of her life is about to be released from prison, reopening old wounds as soon as she stands up.

From the Diamond Dagger Award winner and numerous Edgar Award finalists, Still Life is a tightly plotted mystery story about an investigator “whose unshakable confidence is tempered by kindness and strong sense of justice”.

DCI Karen Pirie of the Historical Cases Unit returns in the latest Scottish police proceedings from Val McDermid. The Karen Pirie series has become my favorite from the prolific McDermid, especially since the Tony Hill/Carol Jordan series sees the main characters mired in ever more extreme situations. .

Still Life follows Pirie as she leads two investigations over a two-week period. For about the first third of the book, Pirie mostly focuses on a cold case co-op with DC recurring character Jason Murray. These two have grown into a well-oiled team. However, the investigation quickly turns into a side story as another mystery begins to surface.

Pirie’s aspiring supervisor has tasked her with investigating a recent death that may be related to the unexplained disappearance of a high-ranking civil servant ten years ago. For this mystery, Pirie worked with new DS character Daisy Mortimer and the procedural aspect was excellent. This mystery clearly drives action for much of the book, attempting to address Scottish independence, the art of forgery, and Brexit. As the investigation unfolded in the final weeks of February 2020, Pirie and Mortimer traveled to Paris, London and Dublin. Readers are all too well aware of the impending pandemic lockdown, which adds uncanny urgency, and McDermid gave a brief nod to the unexplained virus later when a forensics expert warned Report Pirie take reports about it seriously and stock up on supplies.

This is the first time I’ve seen any of Val McDermid’s books. I enjoyed the twists and turns of this police procedure. The good people and the villains were very well drawn. I enjoyed the sections relating to Scottish food and culture. However, my enjoyment of reading was seriously ruined by the main character Karen’s constant preoccupation with other people’s “privileges”. Give it a break, or take a break and learn a bit of culture!

Karen seems to have a serious lack of knowledge of art and music. I can clearly understand why she feels uncomfortable around her new love Hamish. That relationship was doomed from the start. What do they have in common other than the bedroom? Karen’s obsession with her dead lover has also aged a bit. Time to move on, Karen.

One major failure of the police procedure was that, when Karen and Daisy tracked the love/criminal couple to their luxury hideaway, they were able to afford to place tracking devices on the two. his car and photographed the culprit, but that never happened. either person takes a picture of their license plate to verify ownership/alias. I really don’t think a real detective would forget to do such a simple and basic thing.

I think the ending is rather rushed, with the door locking being used as a literary excuse, and I would love the ending about the final fate of the character Amanda, whose nefarious actions must be punished. .
