Some readers need to learn how to pronounce words like “duchy” and “geas”. They are pronounced “dutchy” not “duck” and “gesh” not “ghee-es”. Also, I sometimes have trouble understanding which characters are speaking because readers will speak similar voices for them, especially if they are male. But it’s not so much that I don’t want to hear the story.

If you’ve read The Last Herald-Mage Trilogy, The Oath and Honor Trilogy, and The Arrow Trilogy, this relates to all three, and will shake your heart. A stand-alone book is also good, but in the context of the aforementioned trilogy… I recommend keeping a box of tissues handy – This is certainly an emotional book. The book is beautifully written. Mercedes Lackey has a writing style that I admired from the first time I read one of her books. My admiration only deepens with each new book I read.
