I heard the version of this story in the anthology ‘The Burden of Loyalty’, and it really felt like a mess between the two. On the one hand, as far as I can tell this is the original version, the voice acting and sound effects have a charm that the anthology version doesn’t. On the other hand, Jonathan Keeble alone is definitely in the top 5 of the best storytellers the Black Library has worked with, and with the power of his voice alone, he can carry an entire book. Also, I think I like some of his variations on certain characters more than those in the sound drama, especially the way he makes the Mechanicum characters sound inhuman. directing without resorting to sound effects. Both versions of this story work well, though.
