Very pregnant and unmarried, Jenny Harris doesn’t mind that she and her housemate, Dean, accidentally started a family a little earlier than planned. But Dean is acting aloof, and on the night he runs out to buy cigarettes and doesn’t come back, he downgrades himself from future husband to sperm donor. And the very next day, Jenny gave birth.

In the months that followed, Jenny plunged into the life she never expected: being a single mother. At least with the lack of sleep, chest pain, and fussiness (both hers and the baby’s), there wasn’t much time to agonize over her broken heart. Then things start to take off: Jenny learns to do things with one hand, makes friends in a group of moms, and even meets a handsome, helpful neighbor. But Dean never leaves Jenny’s thoughts or turns out to be on her doorstep, and in the end she must choose between the old life she thought she wanted and the new life she was lucky to find.

An early book by the Katherine Center with a slightly different narrative style than her more recently released books. I love every minute of it. Lighter on romance, but still sweet and ecstatic.
