The year 1807 started badly for Captain Alan Lewrie, Royal Navy. In The King’s Marauder, his frigate HMS Reliant has a new captain, he is living at his father’s estate in Anglesgreen, among neighbors and grudged family, and he is recovering from wound in the South Atlantic. Finally, there is a bright spot. When appropriate, the Navy Department gave him a new assignment; not a frigate but a clumsy, slow double-decker fourth class 50. Are his frigate days over?

Lewrie is ordered to Gibraltar, but agents and manipulators of the State Department’s Secret Branch take advantage of him! HMS Sapphire was an unfit ship for the mission, causing chaos and confusion along the Spanish coast while serving agents and informants. And, what he was ordered to do required soldiers, landing craft and transports, all of which he did not have, and had to find a way to cover it all.

He may beg and say it’s asking too much, but… Alan Lewrie is not one to admit defeat and defeat easily, and his task may prove to be the most difficult. in his long naval career.

Excellent naval historical adventure. Dewey Lambdin scores again! Can’t wair for the next title in this wonderful series. I read the Alan Lewrie novels again and again! Highly recommended!
