The King’s Sorcerer
- Jon Oklar, Book 1
- Narrated by: Simon Vance
On the anniversary of his father’s death, Jon leaves home in search of answers. The land is full of mystery and intrigue, and Jon wants to explore it all with his dream of one day becoming a sorcerer. But when Jon receives an invitation to the castle to train, he begins to believe that there must be a chance.
A long time ago, Jon’s father was a guard near the capital. Now Jon finds himself back where his father used to work, and he sets out to find out why his father wanted to take him away. He will discover that, along with certain threats to the kingdom, there are also many magical arts to learn. Some seem stronger than others, but all have their uses. Jon must understand the intricacies of magic as he uncovers mysteries and threats to the realm. But he also has to learn how to deal with other witches who have come to train at the castle at the same time as him… some of them are hard to trust.
This particular epic fantasy has everything, great world building with a subtle magic system. For a quick read it is beautifully written with a relatable hero who has several quote worthy passages. This book is a must read/listen, usually I recommend read but the narrator (Simon Vance) is excellent.
