This collection is every bit as stunning as I had expected – if not more. I like the uniqueness of the stories while at the same time bearing strong influences and taking the familiar forms of other classic fairy tales. Bardugo truly demonstrates his creative and accomplished writing skills in this collection, combining lyrical words with startling stories and themes. These stories contain beautiful messages and break a lot of the fairy tales to create new stories by maintaining the classic ideas but turning them into something quite different.

The illustrations in this book are also beautiful and add a lot to this whole story. I love how each story alternates with blue and red tones, and I especially like how the outline of each story develops as the story goes on. That whole concept was a beautiful, creative idea that worked out amazingly.
