The Last to Know
- Narrated by: Sarah Zimmerman
American journalist Rose Kynaston has just moved into her husband’s childhood home, Dylan, in his young English village. There was a lot for Rose to get used to in Hurtwood. Like the dilapidated family mansion, inhabited by Dylan’s reclusive mother, and the treacherous hill it sits on, where both sinister folklore and current dangers lie.
Then there are the unwelcome villagers who just whisper the name Kynaston – like some terrible secret, a curse. Everyone knows what happened at Hurtwood House twenty years ago. Everyone but Rose. And now that Dylan is back, so are the rumors about his past.
When an archaeologist unearths human remains in the hills, local police sergeant Ellie Trevelyan vows to solve a chilling case that has chilled Hurtwood for decades.
As Ellie tries to separate rumors from facts, Rose must fight to unravel the name of the man she loves. But how can Rose keep her family safe if she’s the last to know the truth?
This book had me guessing until the end. The countryside and atmosphere was really brought to life, I would love to be able to jump onto a plane and then into a car and explore Shropshire. Reading this book, I really got a strong sense of the landscape, the weather and the overall atmosphere of the story. Sadly I have very poor writing skills so I know that my review won’t really do this book justice, suffice to say, I have enjoyed reading this book immensely. A few of my own deadlines had to be put on hold while a finished it, and now that it is finished I have that slightly lost and off balance feeling of ‘what am I going to read next?’
