The Lost Daughter By Gill Paul – Audiobook Online

The Lost Daughter is a historical fiction novel written by Gill Paul. Set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution and World War I, the book tells the captivating story of Maria Romanov, the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra.

The novel begins in 1918, shortly after the Bolsheviks have taken control of Russia. Maria, along with her family, is held captive in Ekaterinburg by the Bolsheviks. As tensions rise and danger looms, Maria finds solace in her relationship with a young soldier named Dmitri. However, their love is forbidden due to their different social statuses.

As the Romanovs’ captivity becomes increasingly precarious, Maria’s father abdicates the throne in an attempt to save his family. The Romanovs are then moved to Tobolsk, where they are subjected to harsher conditions. Despite the hardships they face, Maria remains hopeful and determined to protect her loved ones.

In 1918, following the October Revolution, the Romanovs are transferred once again, this time to Ekaterinburg. Their situation worsens as they are confined to a small house and cut off from the outside world. Maria’s relationship with Dmitri deepens during this time, but their love is tested by the constant threat of discovery.

As tensions escalate between the Bolsheviks and anti-Bolshevik forces, Maria’s family is executed in July 1918. However, Maria manages to escape with Dmitri’s help. They embark on a perilous journey through war-torn Russia, facing numerous challenges along the way.

Throughout their journey, Maria and Dmitri encounter both allies and enemies. They witness firsthand the devastation caused by war and revolution. As they struggle to survive and find a place where they can be together without fear, they must confront their own inner demons and make difficult choices.

The Lost Daughter not only explores the historical events surrounding the Russian Revolution and the fate of the Romanovs but also delves into themes of love, sacrifice, and resilience. Gill Paul skillfully weaves together fact and fiction, creating a compelling narrative that captures the reader’s attention from beginning to end.

I’ve been waiting for this new release since reading Secret Wife 2 years ago. Not only is her literary skill perfect, her gift for interweaving real history and fictional characters is amazing. I’ve read all of Paul’s books and none have let me down! This one is just as great as her others! My only disappointment after reading/listening to the novels is that they end and I have to wait for her sequel!

This is a great listen! I like double stories that are intertwined through generations and come to an end. The narrator is awesome! Very interesting; don’t want it to end.

The story is wonderfully told with a different perspective of events that happened to some of the Romanov family members. Helps you guess how the characters relate to each other.

I love history! History teacher husband 28 years. I can’t stop listening! I know it’s not all true, but it could have happened! I have my children and grandchildren. It is impossible to imagine all that has really happened to these people. Thanks for your insight!
