The Lost Husband
- Narrated by: Amy Rubinate
The letter arrives unexpectedly, and just in time Libby Moran, who – after the sudden death of her husband, Danny – has moved in with her overly demanding mother. Now, her crazy Aunt Jean has given Libby an escape: a job and a place to live on her ranch in the Texas Hill Country. Before she could talk to herself about it, Libby packed the pickup truck, picked up the kids, and hit the road.
Life on Aunt Jean’s goat farm is both more wonderful and mysterious than Libby could have imagined. Apart from the animals and the hard work, there is tranquility – deep, quiet country. But there is also a shaggy, grumpy (though supposedly handsome, under that hair) farm manager with a tragic home life, a former famous feed store employee. claims that she can contact Danny “on the other side”, and the eccentric aunt. Libby never really knew but who turned out to be exactly what she was looking for. And despite everything she’s lost, Libby soon realizes how much more she’s found. Libby didn’t just trade one type of madness for another; she may indeed have found the place to bring her little family – and herself – back to life.
The main character is a bit likable except being overly worried about her kids. Her romantic interests are endearing EXCEPT the weird speech he gave her about not supporting higher education and that one day the world will return to the old hunting days. That technology will collapse and we need to know survival skills. It was odd and was never mentioned again in the book. It stuck in my mind and made me think he was a weirdo. I wish that had been omitted as it has nothing to do with whatever happened after that.
love this book! I love how Libby found her strength, love. and where she belongs.
I watched the Netflix show about this, it’s cute, but I like how the books have more detail.
Love the plot, and all the side stories too! Cute humor and very real love story… I think of every book I’ve read so far and this is book number 3! Great romance with built-in sensuality! Was right there with every move made towards each other! Especially liked the scene with the schoolyard with the teacher and ‘peeing on my pants’ because I’m a teacher-manager… Something every parent wants to do with school bullies!!! Looking forward to the next book!
