Agatha Christie’s beloved detective, Hercule Poirot, solves the murder of an American heiress by reconstructing her last journey on the night train—with all the suspects on board.

When the legendary Blue Train, luxurious overnight passengers arrive in the Riviera, arrive in Nice, a guard tries to wake Ruth Kettering from her slumber. But the rich American girl will never wake up again, as a brutal blow killed her, leaving her disfigured almost imperceptibly. Furthermore, her valuable famous rubies were gone. The main suspect is Derek, Ruth’s estranged husband. However, Hercule Poirot is not convinced, and so he sets up a strange re-enactment of the journey—with all the suspected murderers on board.

An excellent read! Hercule wasn’t even introduced until the book was halfway through. The details of the characters and their personalities are highly entertaining and the ‘bad guys’ are not revealed until near the end of the book. Very interesting.

Good story. Engage smart readers in 2023! Insights into people’s relationships with each other. The surprise ending is indeed a surprise, but it’s not far off. Over the past few months, I’ve mulled over about 20 murder mysteries by the top ten contemporary writers, and solving their mysteries is often a really big time. Almost funny. Well done, Agatha. I will be reading more of your stories soon.

Secrets of the Blue Train ranks 6th in Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot series and although it takes the first part of the book to get to the journey on the blue train, when it’s past that level, speed The level was raised and Poirot started using his gray cells. Smart, promising and cunning, Hercule Poirot is definitely my favorite detective! He always gets results – “he’s the best detective in the world”.

The Good – While writing The Green Train Mystery, Agatha Christie was still experimenting and experiencing writer block. She overcame the writer’s barrier by writing a novel based on one of her short stories. Her debut novel style is very unique. Mystery of the Blue Train focuses on suspects with Hercule Poirot only halfway through. The novel is better for it – it sheds light on an illustration of an era almost 100 years ago. While not the great Gatsby, it is a fascinating era that Christie describes in the realistic style that underlies the novel.
