The New Iberia Blues – Audiobook Online

The New Iberia Blues is the 22nd book in the Dave Robicheaux series written by James Lee Burke. Set in the fictional town of New Iberia, Louisiana, the novel follows the adventures of Dave Robicheaux, a detective with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The story begins with Robicheaux investigating a series of brutal murders that have occurred in the area. The victims are young women who have been found floating in the bayou, their bodies mutilated and marked with strange symbols. As Robicheaux delves deeper into the case, he discovers a connection to a local blues musician named Desmond Cormier.

Cormier is a charismatic and enigmatic figure who has recently gained fame and fortune. Robicheaux suspects that there is more to Cormier than meets the eye and believes he may be involved in the murders. As he investigates further, Robicheaux uncovers a web of corruption and deceit that reaches into the highest levels of power in Louisiana.

Alongside his partner Clete Purcel, Robicheaux navigates a dangerous landscape filled with drug dealers, mobsters, and corrupt politicians. As they get closer to the truth, they find themselves targeted by those who will stop at nothing to protect their secrets.

Throughout the novel, Burke explores themes of justice, morality, and redemption. Robicheaux is haunted by his own past and struggles with his inner demons as he fights to bring the killers to justice. The New Iberia Blues is not only a gripping crime thriller but also a character-driven story that delves into the complexities of human nature.

The world of detective Dave Robicheaux doesn’t have too many happy stories, but Desmond Cormier’s story from poverty to wealth is definitely one of them. Robicheaux first met Cormier on the streets of New Orleans, when the boy was not yet old enough to have a crazy dream of becoming a Hollywood director.

Twenty-five years later, when Robicheaux knocks on Cormier’s door, it’s not to congratulate him on Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. Robicheaux discovered the body of a young woman crucified, wearing only a small chain around her ankle. She disappears near Cormier’s Cyrpemort Point estate, and Robicheaux, along with young Deputy Sean McClain, are searching for answers. Neither Cormier nor his mysterious actor friend Antoine Butterworth said much, but Robicheaux knew better.

As always, Clete Purcel and Davie’s daughter, Alafair, support Robicheaux. Clete witnesses the escape of Texas prisoner Hugo Tillinger, who may hold the key to Robicheaux’s case. As they delve deeper into the investigation, they fall into the sights of crowds, deranged Chester Wimple, and the dark ghosts of Robicheaux who have been hiding for years. In the end, Robicheaux must stop them all, but he’ll have to summon a light he’s never seen or felt to save himself and those he loves.

I have read all of Dave Robicheaux’s novels in audio because of Will Patton’s authentic and wonderful performances. He makes the books come to life. I recently read a play performed by someone else and it was a bitter disappointment. The book is very good…..just not the same. Wish I could give the performance a 10.

Great, but I really wish he’d stopped it with the same tired plot of Alafair getting involved with someone super shady that Dave then warned her about and she got angry and then what Dave’s sudden surprise turned out to be true. it must be like the last 6 novels did this

One of the best of the best in the Robicheaux series. It’s a beautiful, poetic struggle between good and evil while staying true to the characters we love. Will Patton is completely on target as always.
