As an avid mystery reader, I find myself needing to change the tempo from time to time from fast-paced or suspenseful storylines. To relieve this tension, I searched for “cozy mysteries” that used a plot in which the murder was committed and we followed the detective in the investigation. No.1 Ladies D.A. Is this a slower, more relaxing pace with different views of Africa’s culture and landscape. The reader reflects this speed in her approach with excellent use of accent, which adds to the whole experience and immerses us in the life of Mma Ramotswe, the female detective. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and try other books by the author!

This book has a great, light pace. The main plot does not focus on a case like most detective novels. Instead, we get small details from Precious’s life and her early cases as a detective. The main case, the disappearance of a child, is a dark side episode that brings back memories of spousal abuse that Precious herself experienced.
