The Pardon By James Grippando – Audiobook Online

The Pardon is the first book in the Jack Swyteck series written by James Grippando, an American author known for his legal thrillers. Published in 1994, this gripping novel introduces readers to the character of Jack Swyteck, a criminal defense attorney based in Miami, Florida.

The story revolves around the controversial case of a death row inmate named Rudy “Gooch” Guede. Guede has been convicted of brutally murdering a young woman named Melissa Henderson and has exhausted all his appeals. With only days left until his scheduled execution, Guede’s fate seems sealed.

However, Jack Swyteck becomes involved in the case when he receives a mysterious package containing evidence that suggests Guede may be innocent. The package includes a videotape showing another man confessing to the murder and implicating powerful individuals in a cover-up.

Intrigued by the possibility of a wrongful conviction, Swyteck embarks on a race against time to uncover the truth and save Guede from execution. As he delves deeper into the case, he encounters numerous obstacles and faces threats from those who want to keep the truth hidden.

Swyteck’s investigation leads him to uncover a web of corruption involving influential politicians and businessmen who will stop at nothing to protect their interests. Along the way, he forms an unlikely alliance with Theo Knight, an ex-cop turned private investigator who has his own reasons for wanting justice in this case.

As Swyteck and Knight dig deeper, they face danger at every turn. They encounter witnesses who are afraid to speak out, face intimidation tactics from those involved in the cover-up, and even find themselves targeted by hired assassins. Despite these challenges, they persist in their pursuit of justice.

Throughout the novel, Grippando skillfully weaves together elements of suspense, legal drama, and political intrigue. He explores themes of corruption, power dynamics, and the flaws in the criminal justice system. The story raises important questions about the death penalty, the role of evidence in criminal trials, and the lengths people will go to protect their secrets.

As the climax approaches, Swyteck and Knight uncover a shocking conspiracy that goes far beyond the murder of Melissa Henderson. They must confront powerful individuals who are willing to sacrifice innocent lives to maintain their positions of power.

In a race against time, Swyteck must use all his legal skills and resourcefulness to expose the truth and save Guede from execution. The novel reaches a thrilling conclusion as Swyteck faces off against those who would do anything to keep their secrets hidden.

Fans of John Grisham’s legal thrillers will love the suspenseful action and gripping courtroom drama of James Grippando’s bestsellers. In The Pardon, Grippando delivers a sizzling vengeance story that plagues the muggy streets of southern Florida.

Miami’s defense attorney, Jack Swytek, has long rebelled against his father, Harry, now governor of Florida. The two disagree on almost everything, especially the death penalty. And when Harry allows one of Jack’s clients – a man Jack believes is innocent – to die in the electric chair, their estrangement seems complete. But when faced with a psychopath’s twisted game of revenge, father and son have no choice but to turn to each other.

This is a. good bad. Ok, this is a great book! I love it. I regret having heard other reviews and not receiving this book and the others in the series many years ago. Luckily, now I have something good to listen to. The publisher’s synopsis already builds up the story, so I won’t restate the plot. What I will say is how well written this book is. The characters are believable and well-built. Tense suspense and stories can evoke an emotional response. There was no sadness, just the excitement and frustration I imagined the main character must have felt. For me, that’s some good writing!
Just get the book. Nothing to lose, do not like to return! You don’t just love Audible!
Ron McLarty’s gruff narration is brilliant. I strongly recommend that you refer to this book. If you found this comment helpful, please let me know.
Thank you.

I love listening to James’ books. His characters all have human weaknesses and I always get restless every time I read a character. I thought Forgiveness was his first book and even though it had a slightly slow opening, suddenly it was twisted and I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I like that it’s clear that integrity and personal relationships are an important part of developing his main cast of characters. Most interesting, and my mission is to learn all his books. Jack, the main character is sometimes naive and that worries me, especially when he treats women. I think this is on purpose and it just makes the story more intense to see how Jack will make it through and not get sucked in by the ‘wise women’ we know he basically he’s a good guy. It will be interesting to see how he advances in the upcoming books.
