The Perfect Sister
- Narrated by: Katie Villa
Claire is shocked to receive an unexpected text from Sophie, a beautiful young woman who tells Claire that she is their father’s secret child. After years of caring for her sweet little daughter, Ella, through a life-threatening illness while facing a mental breakdown following the breakdown of her marriage, Claire is thrilled to meet Sophie. Maybe she finally has someone in her family to lean on….
As Claire welcomes her sister into her life, she’s delighted to see how much Ella loves her new aunt Sophie. But as the two spend more time together, Claire begins to wonder where exactly her perfect new sister comes from and what kind of person she really is. With their elderly father’s mind rapidly deteriorating, could he be hiding something from Claire about Sophie’s sudden appearance in their lives?
When Sophie suggests a family day by the beach, little Ella gets excited. But when Claire receives an important phone call from her difficult ex-husband, leaving Sophie in charge of Ella, the unthinkable happens. And as Claire plunged into the icy sea toward her daughter’s small, limp body, she realized that Sophie had been watching all this time. But why would Sophie want to hurt Claire’s precious daughter? Was trusting her new sister with Ella the biggest mistake of Claire’s life?
I love the exciting beginning as a family uncovers secrets with a gradual build-up from the complicated middle to the explosive ending. If you get sucked into the story in the first few chapters, be ready to never want to put it down until the very end. The narration is also excellent.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Claire and Luke are married and have a 4-year-old daughter, Ella. Claire’s widowed father, Bernard, who has dementia/Alzheimer’s, lives with them and she is his caretaker. Luke goes out to a bar with his friends one night and meets Anna and the trouble begins. Claire receives a text from a woman named Sophie, who claims to be her half-sister. This book has a lot of twists and turns and is told from different POVs. I enjoyed this book very much but I found the characters to be very unlikable. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing the ARC for this very interesting book in exchange for an honest review.
