The Pool of Fire – Audiobook Online
“The Pool of Fire,” the third book in the Tripods series, written by John Christopher: In a future world where Earth is ruled by giant, three-legged machines called Tripods, humanity is enslaved and drained of creativity and free will through the use of metal caps on their heads. In “The Pool of Fire,” the third and final book of the series, Will, Henry, and Beanpole are continuing their battle against the alien overlords. They have learned that the Tripods’ power comes from a central source, located in a hidden city in the Himalayas called the “City of Gold and Lead.” Will and his friends travel to the City in hopes of destroying the source of power and ending the Tripods’ tyranny. In the City, they encounter various obstacles and dangers, including the treacherous terrain, the treachery of some of the inhabitants, and the ruthlessness of the Tripods themselves. Along the way, they team up with a rebel group that is also fighting against the Tripods. Together, they must navigate the secrets and mysteries of the City, find the Pool of Fire (the source of the Tripods’ power), and destroy it before it’s too late. The story concludes with an epic battle as Will and his friends confront the Tripods and their human collaborators. The fate of humanity rests on their success or failure. “The Pool of Fire” is a thrilling and thought-provoking conclusion to the Tripods series that explores themes of freedom, individuality, and the cost of resistance.

The Pool of Fire
- Tripods Series, Book 3
- Narrated by: William Gaminara
In the final book of John Christopher’s classic series, Will Parker returns to Resistance headquarters after several months in the City of Gold and Lead. He traveled to Eastern Europe and the Middle East to form resistance groups with boys who questioned the Tripod’s power.
When they are able to capture one of the Tripod’s ‘Masters’, they unlock a secret they use to try to finally gain control of the earth from the Tripod, and possibly – just maybe – save humanity.
This is the last book in the Tripod Trilogy. I don’t like this one as much as the others, but it’s still good regardless! Of course, I have to find out what happened to the boys and whether the Resistance has succeeded in wresting control from the alien Masters!
William Gaminara narrated all the Tripod books, and he read the story well and distinguished the boys from each other in different accents.
I read the “When Tripods Came” prequel right after to end the series.
Reading this series is amazing! I highly recommend listening to both the original 3 and the prequel. Great in every way!
