Allies and enemies are not always what they seem.

Trapped in a hostile world, hunted by pirate gangs, and abandoned by fellow captains, Alexis Carew must lead her small group to safety, even though it seems all hands are against her. Lurked by pirates in the sky above and shadowy alien silhouettes on the planet below, Alexis must convince old enemies to trust her even as she discovers where her true enemies lead.

Elizabeth Kent has a lovely voice that fits and drives the story of sailing ships in this dark space. You can almost see the difficulties and excitement that the sailors and officers mentioned are having. From start to finish, your imagination flows with the ships in the dark space as if it were water and a smile touches your lips as you see your Imagination fill the gaps and see the characters as they live and die for their comrades, the ship and the Queen at the behest of their officers. You can feel the good and bad sides of each character and track their actions or inactions on each issue as it arises. As with any book, some people will enjoy reading or listening and others will not. Who knows maybe Alexis will eventually accept that lowly thing as a friend and that’s her.

Love the main character and the story. The narrator is also great. Hope there are more in store for Alexis.
