The Secret Circle, Volume I: The Initiation is the first book in a young adult fantasy series written by L. J. Smith. As Cassie becomes more involved with the Circle, she learns about her own powers and heritage. She discovers that she is descended from a long line of powerful witches and that she has a crucial role to play in the Circle’s destiny. The initiation process begins, where Cassie must prove herself worthy of being part of the Circle.

However, not everything is smooth sailing for Cassie. Faye, who is jealous of Cassie’s growing connection with Adam, becomes her rival within the Circle. Faye uses her powers to manipulate situations and cause trouble for Cassie. Additionally, there are dark forces at play in New Salem, and Cassie must navigate through dangerous situations to protect herself and her newfound friends.

Throughout the book, Cassie struggles with her feelings for Adam while also trying to fit into this new world of magic and witchcraft. She faces challenges and tests that push her limits and force her to confront her fears.

As the initiation progresses, Cassie uncovers secrets about her family’s past and the true nature of the Circle. She learns that there is a powerful dark force threatening the Circle’s existence, and it is up to her to help protect them.

The book ends with a cliffhanger, leaving readers eager to continue the series and find out what happens next in Cassie’s journey as a witch.

I enjoyed the first book of the Secret Circle. The book introduced many characters that the TV series did not have. Needless to say, Faye is a character that I absolutely hate. She comes across as self-serving and simply has a bad temper. The main character Cassie can be a little pitiful at times. I will continue to listen to the series The Secret Circle and I hope Cassie will transform into a powerful and no longer pitiful witch.
