The Secret of Chimneys is a detective fiction novel written by Agatha Christie, first published in 1925. The story revolves around a young adventurer named Anthony Cade, who becomes entangled in a web of mystery and intrigue when he is asked to deliver a manuscript to a publisher. As he delves deeper into the secrets of Chimneys, an English country house, he uncovers a complex plot involving stolen diamonds, political conspiracies, and international espionage.

The novel begins with Anthony Cade, a charming and resourceful man who has traveled the world and now finds himself in London. He receives a proposition from an old friend, Jimmy McGrath, who asks him to deliver a manuscript to a publisher named George Lomax. Intrigued by the promise of adventure and some financial gain, Anthony agrees to take on the task.

Upon arriving at Chimneys, the country estate of Lord Caterham, Anthony finds himself caught up in a whirlwind of events. He meets various eccentric characters, including Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent, Lord Caterham’s daughter and an adventurous young woman who dreams of becoming a detective. Bundle is fascinated by the history and legends surrounding Chimneys and is determined to uncover its secrets.

As Anthony settles into his role as a guest at Chimneys, he discovers that the house holds more than just historical significance. It was once the meeting place for an international conference where important political decisions were made. The main topic of discussion was the fate of Herzoslovakia, a fictional Balkan country on the brink of revolution.

Soon after his arrival, Anthony becomes embroiled in a series of events that lead to murder. The first victim is Count Stylptitch, an emissary from Herzoslovakia who was attending a secret meeting at Chimneys. His body is found in one of the rooms, and it becomes clear that someone is willing to go to great lengths to keep the secrets of Chimneys hidden.

As the investigation unfolds, Anthony finds himself working alongside Bundle and a cast of colorful characters, including Superintendent Battle of Scotland Yard. Together, they uncover a complex web of deceit, betrayal, and international intrigue. The stolen diamonds, known as the “Chimneys jewels,” play a central role in the plot, with various characters vying for their possession.

Throughout the story, Agatha Christie weaves together multiple subplots and introduces a wide range of characters, each with their own motives and secrets. The narrative takes unexpected twists and turns, keeping readers guessing until the final revelation.

In true Agatha Christie fashion, The Secret of Chimneys is filled with red herrings, misdirections, and cleverly concealed clues. The novel showcases Christie’s mastery of the detective genre, as she skillfully builds suspense and creates a complex puzzle for readers to solve.

Overall, The Secret of Chimneys is a thrilling and entertaining mystery that combines elements of adventure, romance, and political intrigue. Agatha Christie’s intricate plotting and engaging characters make this novel a must-read for fans of classic detective fiction.

Little did Anthony Cade expect that an errand for a friend would put him at the center of a deadly conspiracy. Caught in a web of conspiracies, he begins to realize that simple favoritism has put him in grave danger.

As events unfold, the combined forces of Scotland Yard and the French Secret Service gradually converge on Chimneys, the vast expanse of the country that harbors an incredible secret.

Perhaps Hugh Fraser should be credited for delivering it in his brilliant interpretation, but now that I know, Agatha Christie really has a knack for speech, not to mention how the plots and characters are portrayed. very nice description. I don’t think I can come up with anything new in my review, so I’ll just say I’m glad I finally noticed that I’ve given all the audiobooks a 5 star rating in the end. This is Christie’s that I have in my library and wonder why I just realized now that I’m a fan.

I have never read or heard this book, would you even think I’ve read all of Agatha Christie’s novels
It was written in the 1920s and is very charming. I love it

I enjoyed this mysterious adventure story. I read the reviews of people who didn’t like it, but I found it very interesting. Although slightly different from the mysteries of Poirot and Marple, there is more humor and a sense of adventure. Additionally, Christie brings in quirky, lovable characters (e.g. Lord Caterham), along with more suspicious, sinister characters. There are elements of typical British mystery, most notably that most events, including denial, happen at a country house in England. And, as always, Hugh Fraser did an excellent job with the narrative.

This is one of Agatha Christie’s cutest yet smartest stories. There are such compelling characters, and Hugh Fraser brought them to life perfectly. Most of the time I guess ends quickly. This I didn’t guess it until the middle of the book. I love the work of Agatha Christy. What a different new book to Christie’s. The setting itself gives a thrill for a chapter but the ending is so satisfying that this might just be my favorite Christie novel! Another amazing mystery of Dame Agatha Christie! Great performance by Hugh Fraser. I absolutely love it!
