The Spine of the World: Legend of Drizzt: Paths of Darkness, Book 2
- Narrated by: Victor Bevine
Join the world’s most famous drowning elf in the penultimate chapter of the Legend of Drizzt series! Spending time in the unimaginable torture chambers of the Abyss for even one day was enough to shatter even the most honest of souls, and the savage Wulfgar had been there for years. When he returned, his friends saw him as a changed man, and not changed for the better. But Wulfgar’s path to redemption is one he must take on his own, even if it leads to the bottle.
The story is great, at first I was a bit disappointed not to be accompanied by our protagonist Drizzt, but I quickly came to appreciate Wulfgar’s character development. Salvatore’s writing really surprised me at times in this story, sometimes touching on particularly sensitive topics, something he hadn’t done before. The reading feels overwhelming to more mature readers at times, which is a welcome change. Life in Faerun’s fantasy world feels special, grim, in the 12th book of a truly unforgettable series. Looking forward to more books in the future. Hope you enjoy the series as much as I do.
This book revolves around the barbarian Wulfgar, weaving another story to accompany it at the end. It’s a refreshing change in the series that doesn’t focus on Drizzt. The different batches are well mounted at the end. I wish for more.
