The Starr Sting Scale By C.S. O’Cinneide – Audiobook Online

The Starr Sting Scale is a crime fiction novel written by C.S. O’Cinneide. The story revolves around the protagonist, Candace Starr, who considers herself retired after being released from prison. However, her retirement is short-lived when she is approached by Kristina Corrigan, a prominent socialite, with an unusual request. Kristina wants Candace to eliminate her daughter’s boyfriend, Tyler Brent, permanently from their lives. The twist in this case is that Tyler is only 17 years old, and Candace usually refrains from targeting individuals who are not yet adults.

Candace Starr is a former assassin who has left her criminal past behind and is trying to lead a normal life. She has successfully distanced herself from her previous profession and has no intention of returning to it. However, when Kristina Corrigan offers her a substantial amount of money to eliminate Tyler Brent, Candace finds herself tempted by the offer.

Tyler Brent is described as a “barnacle” in Kristina’s life, implying that he is clingy or unwanted. It is unclear why Kristina wants him removed from her daughter’s life so desperately. Nevertheless, Candace hesitates due to Tyler’s age and the moral implications of targeting a minor.

The book explores Candace’s internal struggle as she contemplates whether to accept the job or not. On one hand, she could use the money and potentially secure her financial future. On the other hand, she questions the ethics of killing someone so young and wonders if there might be alternative solutions to the problem.

As the story progresses, Candace delves deeper into Tyler’s background and investigates his relationship with Kristina’s daughter. She uncovers secrets and hidden motives that complicate the situation further. The plot thickens as Candace navigates through a web of deceit and betrayal.

Without revealing too much of the plot, The Starr Sting Scale takes readers on a thrilling journey filled with suspense, moral dilemmas, and unexpected twists. It explores themes of redemption, the consequences of one’s actions, and the blurred lines between right and wrong.

Overall, The Starr Sting Scale is a gripping crime novel that delves into the complexities of human nature. It challenges readers to question their own moral compasses and consider the consequences of their choices. C.S. O’Cinneide skillfully weaves together a tale that keeps readers engaged until the very end.

Candace Starr likes to think she’s retired since her release from prison. That is until social media mogul Kristina Corrigan tries to hire her to permanently remove her daughter’s boyfriend, Tyler Brent, from their lives. Single catch? Tyler is 17 years old. Even Candace often draws the line in taking down an unshaven target.

But when Tyler died in a river canyon with a broken neck, people began to question. Detective Chien-Shiung Malone, the aspiring cop assigned to the case, has a lot of assets of his own. However, Candace won’t offer any answers – until Malone makes an offer she can’t refuse. Candace signs up as Malone’s unofficial partner to find out who killed Tyler, although it’s likely she killed the boy herself.

With scandalous wit and pretentious satire, the first novel in the Candace Starr series offers the ultimate thrill as Starr and Malone race down a dark and dangerous path to find truth. Everyone on the trip will compete with each other to call for handguns.

Oh to be a retired female assassin, or an assassin? Candace Starr, out of prison and earning a living by various jobs, legal and maybe not, finds herself involved, grudgingly, with the police to solve a murder she has can know. And so it goes, and goes it does. Ms. O’Cinneide keeps the action going through a series of characters and episodes that keep the reader hooked until the very last minute and its ending.
Fun and entertaining with a main character that can be hard to love, but it’s fun.

Intrigued by the idea of a “retired” alcoholic female assassin agreeing to help a posh detective catch a murderer, I couldn’t read fast enough to figure out what awaited them in the book. this fascinating book. I was particularly impressed with the first-person POV, the quirky characters, the dark humor, the plot twists and the unexpected ending. It’s official—I’m currently a fan of The Candace Starr Series and hope that Miss O’Cinneide will deliver the sequel as soon as possible.

I got this on the library shelf and loved it so much that I would buy it. Noir with a sense of humour, a strong heroine, and a very morally compromised protagonist. First in a series of three, and you bet I’ll buy the others too.
