This is a wonderful story that blends the superstitions of the Highlands with the realities of a clever fourteenth-century super-sleuth. When read in sequence with the other novels in the series, this novel is extremely satisfying. I prefer to use native Scots and Gaelic; realism is therefore much more believable. A good read, a solid read, and an engaging read. I really enjoyed this story. I am also a medieval fanatic and this factor influences how and what I read.

Pat Mcintosh takes you by the neck and drops you into medieval Glasgow complete with sights, sounds and smells. Gill Cunningham’s series is highly recommended for its craftsmanship and authenticity.
