The Surgeon By Tess Gerritsen – Audiobook Online

The Surgeon is the first book in the Rizzoli & Isles series written by Tess Gerritsen. Published in 2001, this gripping thriller introduces readers to the world of Detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles as they investigate a series of brutal murders in Boston.

The story begins with the discovery of a horrifying crime scene: a woman has been bound, gagged, and killed in her own bedroom. The method of murder bears a striking resemblance to that of notorious serial killer Warren Hoyt, who was recently incarcerated. However, it soon becomes clear that a copycat killer is on the loose.

Detective Jane Rizzoli, a tough and determined investigator, is assigned to the case. As she delves deeper into the investigation, she realizes that the killer’s victims are all women who have undergone a specific type of surgery. This leads her to suspect that the murderer may have medical knowledge or connections.

Dr. Maura Isles, a brilliant and enigmatic medical examiner, becomes involved in the case when she discovers a chilling link between the victims. As Rizzoli and Isles work together to unravel the mystery, they find themselves drawn into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a sadistic killer.

As the body count rises and the pressure mounts, Rizzoli and Isles must race against time to catch the surgeon before he strikes again. Along the way, they face personal challenges and confront their own demons, adding depth to their characters and enhancing the overall narrative.

Gerritsen skillfully weaves together elements of suspense, forensic science, and psychological drama to create a compelling and fast-paced story. The Surgeon keeps readers on edge with its intricate plot twists and vivid descriptions of both crime scenes and medical procedures.

The novel also explores themes of gender dynamics within law enforcement and medicine. Rizzoli faces sexism from her colleagues but refuses to be undermined or intimidated. Isles, on the other hand, struggles with her own identity as a woman in a male-dominated field.

Overall, The Surgeon is a gripping and atmospheric thriller that sets the stage for the Rizzoli & Isles series. With its well-developed characters, intense suspense, and thought-provoking themes, it captivates readers from beginning to end.

In the most masterful of medical novels, New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen creates an unforgettable villain – and the only woman who can catch get him before he kills again.

He sneaks into their home at night and quietly enters the bedroom where the women are sleeping, unaware of the horrors they will soon endure. The precision of the killer’s methods made him a medical psychopath, which scared the Boston newspapers and the public to call him “The Surgeon”.

The police’s only clue lies with another surgeon, the victim of an almost identical crime. Two years ago, Dr. Catherine Cordell fought back and killed her attacker before he could complete his attack. Now, she hides her fear of intimacy behind a cool, elegant look and a well-deserved reputation as a top trauma surgeon. Cordell’s careful appearance is about to crack as this new killer recreates, with chilling precision, the details of Cordell’s own ordeal.

With each new murder, he seems to be taunting her, getting closer and closer, from the hospital to her home. Her only consolation comes from Thomas Moore, the detective assigned to the case. But not even Moore can protect Cordell from a brilliant hunter who somehow understands – and enjoys – the secret fear of every woman he kills.

Full of authentic details that are trademarks of this doctor turned author… and include characters that are rich and complex – from the emergency room to the squad room to the city morgue – this is a horror film with unprecedented depth and suspense. Exposing the shocking connection between killers and cures, punishments and protections, The Surgeon is Tess Gerritsen’s most exciting achievement yet.

Now this is Tess Gerritsen that I love to read.. Great book, can’t stop reading, Awesome Tess, Can’t wait for the next one. I am passionate about the storyline, the plot, the subplots, the characters. The story is gripping, believable and scary at the same time fun!!

Narrative is good. The well-researched and fairly accurate medical thriller saves a doctor who is working in an emergency room, then conducts surgery at a large urban hospital. Partnerships between medical professionals and law enforcement are also well-executed. Thank!

I’ve always liked the TV show Rizzoli and Iles, but haven’t listened to the books. Although Rizzoli is different from the TV show, I still like her. Listen well.

I read through the first chapter because Gerritsen wrote it well; I don’t waste my time on people who can’t. But she not only passed that test, but blew into the stratosphere with The Surgeon; a robbed sleep, experience cardiac arrest.
